The meaning
Amor fati is Latin for love of fate. Nietzsche made it famous, and the Stoics, especially Epictetus and Marcus Aurelius, taught the same idea centuries earlier: want things to happen as they actually happen. Loving your fate does not mean liking every part of it. It means taking all of it, the losses included, as the material you build with.
On good days and hard days
- On good days, it reminds you to love the life you have, all of it, not only the easy parts.
- On hard days, when you are still fighting something that already happened, it helps you accept it and use it. Love your fate, which is in fact your life.
Why a key tag
A coin can sit in a drawer. Keys can't, so this one comes along every day and reminds you, on the way out the door, to stop arguing with what already happened. It carries the same artwork as the Amor Fati Coin: a burning heart bound in thorns, ringed by roses and two cherubs, on the front, and a skeletal hand holding a rose on the back.
Give it
It is a thoughtful gift for a friend starting over after a breakup, a move or a career change, and for anyone who reads the Stoics or Nietzsche. Give it with a new set of keys for a fresh start.
Specs
- Diameter: 1.54 in (39 mm)
- Thickness: 2.7 mm
- Weight: about 1 oz (28 g)
- Material: brass alloy, Antique Bronze finish
- Made: die struck, minted in the USA
- Each key tag is antiqued with a special patina so it looks like it has already been in circulation. The patina never settles the same way twice, so no two key tags look exactly alike. Small variations in color and shading are normal, and they are what make yours one of a kind.
- Key ring included
Questions
What does amor fati mean?
“Love of fate.” Accept everything that happens, good and bad, as part of your life, and make use of it.
What is a good gift for someone starting over?
Something they will use every day. A key tag with amor fati goes on the new keys and reminds them to make use of what happened.
Is it the same design as the Amor Fati Coin?
Yes, the artwork is the same on both sides. The key tag simply adds a loop so it can hang from your keys.
Will my key tag look exactly like the photos?
Very close, but never identical. Each key tag is antiqued with a special patina that settles differently every time, so small variations in color and shading from the photos are normal. They are what make yours one of a kind.

Care: keep it dry and wipe it with a soft cloth. No polishing needed; the aged finish is part of the look.
